Duplicate Song Finder Scan Modes

Find Duplicate Songs

The duplicate music remover tool provides multiple scan methods for finding duplicate and similar songs like "Audio Compare",100% Identical Files", "File Size", "ID3 Title", "ID3 Artist", and "ID3 Album".

Audio Compare - Find Similar Songs

This mode will find similar songs performing true audio analysis and comparison. It can find similar tunes even if they are not marked with ID3 tags and stored in different audio formats. It analyzes the audio itself and looks for similarity among the files. This mode is different from our Duplicate Image Finder and Duplicate File Finder tools and the differences are explained here - Which Duplicate Finder To Choose?

100% Identical Files - Find Exact Duplicates

This scan mode will find exact copies of a song even if it is stored with different name. The mode compares the actual file data and not just size, name or checksum. Tools that scan by checksum like CRC or MD5 may incorrectly list totally different files as duplicates - this is not the case with Audio Dedupe!

File Size - Find Duplicates With Equal Sizes

This is the fastest of all modes and looks only for files that have the same size and/or extension. Though two files may have the same size and completely different content if you are comparing only files with the same extensions (file types) that is very unlikely.

ID3 Title - Find Similar Songs By Title

Find similar file names even if the text is rearranged. This is a true similarity analysis and not just a partial pattern matching mode. For example "Voodoo People" and "Voodoo People (rmx)" will be matched as similar depending on the specified similarity level. Set the similarity level to 100% in order to find only the exact duplicate titles.

ID3 Artist - Find Songs From The Same Artist

This mode will find the song that have the same or similar artist. Setting the similarity lower than 100% will make sure that even if the artist info is specified slightly different in the songs they will be identified.

ID3 Album - Find audio files from the same album

This mode will group together all songs that are from the same album. As with the previous two modes a similarity percentage can be specified to make sure that even if the album is typed differently the songs will still be grouped together.

Duplicate Audio Cleaner - Compare Folders

While you can remove all duplicate songs and music from computer, drive, network or folder, you can also compare two or more folders for duplicate songs.

Find Duplicate Music
Delete Repeating Songs

You can set a "source" folder in order to exclude it from auto-check and preserve the items inside. There is a per-folder option "Exclude from self-scan" which denotes that the items inside that "source" folder will not be compared with each other - they will be compared only with items from the other folders in the list. Read more on How To Exclude A Folder From Scan

There is also an "Exclude from auto-check" option which can be used separately or in combination with the "Exclude from self-scan option". Ticking the option for the corresponding folder denotes that the items inside will not be marked if the auto-check feature is used. Read more on How To Exclude A Folder From Auto-Check

Duplicate MP3 Finder Command-line Parameters

Command-Line Parameters Usage: (Available only in Corporate Version)

AudioDedupe.exe -src_list <srclistfilename> -target_list <targetfilename> -log <logfilename> -s <similarity> -db <dbfilename> [-cachenames]

-src_list <srclistfilename> - specifies a plain text file which contains file names that you want to compare against <targetfilename> files
-target_list <targetfilename> - specifies a plain text file which contains file names that you want to compare against <srclistfilename> files

If you omit -target_list parameter only -src_list files will be scanned

-log <logfilename> - specifies full path file name where the log from the comparison will be saved, e.g. c:\log.txt
-s <similarity> - specifies a similarity in percents. Example: -s 70
-db <dbfilename> - specifies the cache file name to be used or created.

-cachenames - if this option is specified, the program will store file names in cache instead of files checksum

Cache files store audio files information gathered during the preprocessing pass (1st pass) of the scanning process. So if you often scan the same files, using cache file speeds up considerably the preprocessing pass.
You don't need to create the cache file. Just specify it as a parameter and the program will create it. Or if the cache file from previous scan exists the program will use it. The cache files extension is ADCF (Audio Dedupe Cache File).

Example:

AudioDedupe.exe -src_list "c:\src.txt" -target_list "c:\target.txt" -log "c:\log.txt" -s 70 -db "c:\db.adcf"

This will find all audio files with similarity >= 70% and save their file names and similarity in c:\log.txt file.

If some of the parameters contain spaces, you must enclose them in double quotes.

Example:

-src_list "c:\program files\files.txt".

Sample src.txt and target.txt file contents:

C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (3).mp3
C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (3).mpc
C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (4).mp3
C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (4).ogg
C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (5).mp3
C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (6).mp3
C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (7).mp3

Sample log.txt file contents:

* DUPLICATES OF * : C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (3).mp3
*** DUPLICATE 1 (SIMILARITY 98) *** : C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (3).mpc
* DUPLICATES OF * :   C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (4).mp3
*** DUPLICATE 1 (SIMILARITY 95) *** : C:\My Documents\MP3\Track (4).ogg
